Indian Lake Outfitters and the Jersey Cow

Whether you're at Young's Jersey Dairy for the Farmstead Cheese, yummy food from the Golden Jersey Inn or the Dairy Store or maybe just the family fun pass and the cowlendar of events, there's a lot to be learned from the family owned business that started in 1869. Your children can relate to the farm animals, Cowvin's Kiddie Corral and the tractor play yard, Udders and Putters miniature golf or Elsie's driving range and giant slide.

The dairy farm is an educational and interesting experience to say the least. Not only do you get to explain to your kids where hamburger and milk comes from, they get to try 50 flavors of ice cream during the process, but only after you've expressed the need to use the hand sanitizer for the hundreth time at the petting zoo and the porta-johns.

What do all these have in common? They're branded to the jersey cow! Even the concrete miniature photo opportunities and jungle gym structures you find around the farm are unique but if you had to guess, you better bet they're placed with reason and have an overall purpose at the farm.

Archery Range Experience
When ILO is #iloaboutnabout, we're always trying to pick up ideas to brand and grow our business and local community. If you're looking for a unique local day out, come try our Archery Range Experience. Just like Young's Jersey Dairy, Indian Lake Outfitters is branded on family and fun. Bring your buddy or drag the kids along and come fling some arrows in our outdoor range! The equipment and instruction are included so all novice shooters are welcome. Our equipment is compatible for ages 5 and older and our family business is open 7 days a week for your family entertainment.

Call us at 937-842-1934 to schedule your visit or book it on the web now!

Do You Know the Health Benefits of Archery?

Although a predominantly recreational sport, archery offers several health benefits both physically and mentally. Have you ever wondered how archery can strengthen your muscles and put you in better health? Yes? Then read on...

Archery is a great upper body strength builder, similar to lifting weights. Pulling and drawing back your bow requires a several second hold that places stress on both your arms and chest as well as your shoulders and back. Repetition leads to muscle development in most of the major muscle groups of your upper body.

Balance is vital to the success of your archery score because you have to be able to hold your body still while aiming and making that perfect shot. Just practicing the sport of archery helps you gain control over your balance as you focus on the target.

Another essential skill for archery is hand-eye coordination. Archery can actually train your hands to work together with your eyes while aiming and firing your arrow.

Shooting archery can be a great walking exercise. During competitions, you'll walk from target to target in short intervals improving your cardiovascular health, muscle tone and leg strength.

Mental focus is important to success as an archer. Developing focus can have a positive impact on your mental health and well being. The focus you learn from archery may even help you to overcome procrastination and distraction.

If you're interested in learning more about archery, or just want to give it a try, call or stop into Indian Lake Outfitters. We're open 7 days a week with an indoor, climate controlled archery range.

We offer equipment rental and lessons for the beginning archer as well as annual or quarterly range membership for the experienced archer. Gift certificates are also available.

Logan County Relay for Life Annual Quarter Auction

Everyone loves a friendly competition, especially one quarter at a time. This year's Relay for Life Quarter Auction was even bigger than last year with paddles selling out in just a few days of announcing the event!

If you've never been to a quarter auction before, here's the scoop... you WIN AWESOME PRIZES for JUST $0.25 A BID!! There are four categories for the evening. Gift baskets that range from the $25 price range, $25-$50, $50-$75 and $100 and up.

If the item up for auction is in the $25 category, it's just a twenty-five cent bid for each paddle you have. If the item is in the $100 category it's a 4-quarter bid for each paddle you have. Each paddle has a matching number in the hopper. If you're paddle number is pulled from the hopper and you placed a bid for that item, then you win the current item up for auction. Pretty simple, right? AND TONS OF FUN!

The 2nd Annual Logan County Relay for Life Quarter Auction was held Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Indian Lake Outfitters was asked to donate a little swag to help with the cause so we decided to participate full-throttle and offered four great gift baskets for the auction.

If you're interested in joining our Relay for Life Team or would like more information on how to get involved, don't hesitate to give us a call!

Indian Lake Ohio Duck Dynasty Polar Plunge

Each year thousands of folks do crazy things. The people of Indian Lake, Ohio are no different and we here at Indian Lake Outfitters, fit right in just fine. A few weeks ago we had the pleasure to participate in the Annual Indian Lake Polar Plunge and take the "Freezin' for a Reason" challenge.

The Polar Plunge is a national organization created to support the Special Olympics - it's locally supported by the Indian Lake Moose Lodge. The event is in its 4th year at Indian Lake and continues to grow annually. For 2013, Plungers raised over $7500 for the cause!

Anyone is eligible to plunge with a $75 pledge for adults or just $50 for students. The only other requirement to participate is that you have fun AND DRESS UP! So guess what?! Team ILO was all on board for a good time showing up as Si, Phil and Willie Robertson of Duck Dynasty. We had complete outfits with beards made out of mop heads!

For more photos of Team ILO and the 2013 Polar Plunge at Indian Lake, check out our facebook album here.

Memorial Day and Beyond

The Memorial Day holiday means so many things to lots of people. It's a time of reflection, a time of remembrance and a time to respect. It's a time of togetherness and a time to thank all those we've loved, those we've lost and those who've paid the ultimate sacrifice. For that, we are forever grateful.
As a family, we can't thank you enough. As Indian Lake Outfitters, we'd like to show our appreciation every day. Flash your military ID and receive a 10% discount on all your accessory purchases throughout the year.

"We're in the People Business"

My friend has this line that she likes to say and it goes like this... "We're in the People Business". (There's more to it than that, but it comes later.)

The cool thing about my friend, and Indian Lake Outfitters, is that we're in the people business too. Although I'm selling worms for a living and Carrie is selling insurance, the most important part of either is YOU. With out YOU as loyal customers we couldn't do what we enjoy on a daily basis and we surely couldn't do it well.

If you haven't figured it out, my friend's name is Carrie, sometimes referred to as the Insurance Goddess. Carrie works at Alan Galvez Insurance where she sells all different forms of insurance on the personal and commercial level. Visit their website, www.galvezinsurance.com for amazing resources like their informational newsletter, Q and A about insurance, a comprehensive terms glossary, latest agency news or read the blog - Confessions of an Insurance Goddess.

Again, we as Indian Lake Outfitters can share another common point with Galvez Insurance...we're both family owned and operated businesses in Logan County. We understand the importance of being rooted, having a local agent, someone you can trust, and someone that knows your situation. Galvez Insurance is just that, the reason we'd like to refer them to you.

How cool is this?! When you call Carrie for a quote, tell her we sent you and you'll receive another AWESOME reward, a $10 gift card to either Sweet Aromas or Peach Tree Books and Gifts, two other local businesses in Logan County. That's it! No gimmicks or strings attached.

So here's the rest of Carrie's line, "We're in the People Business. We just happen to sell insurance." While at Indian Lake Outfitters, we ask you to "Release Your Inner Outdoors" but you'll probably hear "We've got Worms" a lot more often!

The Tank Lock Marine Locking Fuel Cap

Let's talk about gas prices ... or the increase cost of fuel and the vulnerability of theft ... then consider your options, like "The Tank Lock", a marine locking fuel cap.

Fuel theft is on the rise, forcing boaters to look for the best means of protection. You can find it with the Tank Lock and here's why. It locks your boat's fuel, water and waste supply, providing the best protection for unattended boats. Tank Lock is strong and durable for a long service life and it offers you self security and peace of mind.

Tank Lock was developed by an avid boater for boaters. It's the only locking fuel cap offered in 6 standard sizes. You can install the 2 piece fuel cap in just minutes and it's made of high grade solid stainless steel right here in Ohio, USA.

Family in Your Indian Lake Community

"Guess what? A volunteer from Junior Achievement came to my class! We talked about how people live and work together in a family. I'm learning how work helps me get the things I need and want. I can hardly wait to learn more!"

If this is the conversation around your dinner table tonight, smile and ask the kids about the first of five lessons in the program relating to Our Families in Junior Achievement at the Indian Lake Elementary School.

According to the lesson plan, the term "family" is defined as a special group of people that differ in size, age and relationship. Working with 6 and 7 year olds on the definition of family was very eye opening. Keeping in mind that all families are different, I received several different types of answers, all which were very accurate but the main perception being, whether it be folks you live with, work with or socialize with, family is what you make it.

Our next exercise was to list all of the things we like to do with our families including baseball, golf, fishing, bike riding and archery. We discussed how important it is to help your family out and how it makes us feel when we do. We then browsed our neighborhood poster and pointed out all the families working together helping one another and how that makes our neighborhood a great place to live.

Indian Lake Outfitters was formed as a family business and continues to grow because of the support from our community. We invite you to come in as a customer and leave as a friend. You're always welcome to join our family, make yourself at home and be part of something greater.

We sure appreciate those of you that do.

Southern Game Calls Talk Wild

There's a new "cat" in town at Indian Lake Outfitters we call Southern Game Calls and they have one of the coolest predator calls around known as the Midnight Shake-N-Chatter with Pups. It's ultra realistic and super effective!

The Shake-N-Chatter is a fail proof predator call with multi-voice and function capability. It's among the easiest to use as your "Secret Weapon".

To run the shaker, just cup your hand on the exhaust end and shake. Open and close your hand to produce noticeably different tones. Slow shakes will engage voice #1, a raspy squirrel or chipmunk like chatter. Shaking more aggressively will kick in voice #2 for an aggressive immature raccoon distress or fight sound. Remember to open and close your hands for multiple tones.

To run the den of pups, hold the exhaust end in one hand and the rubber bellows in the other. Just push in on the bellows and let it pop back out on its own. You can go easy and slow for relaxed den activity or really pop it in and out rapidly for pups in distress.

We offer a full-line of Southern Game Calls at Indian Lake Outfitters in the store and on the web. "Talk Wild" - get their attention...peek their curiosity...then take 'em to the taxidermist!

Archery in the Schools at ILES

We recently had the opportunity to attend the Benefit Carnival for Brandon Gillen to help support Brandon with his fight against cancer. The benefit was spectacular and raised over $7000 in one evening!

We were personally excited to be part of such a great event and proud to live in a community that comes together in a time of need.

As Indian Lake Outfitters it offered us a chance to introduce archery in the schools. The kids were lined up to shoot a real bow and several arrows at portable targets with instruction from our experienced staff.

If you missed your chance to shoot, we'll be supporting another great event in the community on Monday, April 16th, at the Indian Lake Elementary School - Family Game Night. Join us for this fun, free evening!

Zombies ATTACK!

The Zombie Craze has arrived in the store and on the web at www.indianlakeoutfitters.com. Oh yes, we have "Zeroed in on the Zombies"!

Let us share with you the Zombie 101 Low-down...
CREEPY ARMS: They will try to distract you by waving their arms all over.
BLOODY CLOTHES: They've been snacking on your neighbors all day. Their table manners disappeared when they were infected.
DRAGGING FEET: Their movement is painfully slow and their feet never really leave the ground. Use this to your advantage - set some trip lines around your yard.
HEAD: This is the only party that's worth aiming for. Destroy their brain before they try to eat yours!

Although this video isn't suitable for all viewers, it puts you in the driver seat of a Zombie Attack...

At Indian Lake Outfitters, we have the Zombie Max ammo available "Just in Case" but remember this is LIVE certified Zombie ammunition, not a toy.

If you need to practice before the real Zombies arrive, consider your options... Chris, The Ex or Leo.

Man Cans at Indian Lake Outfitters

Who's heard of Hart Main, one of the Huffington Post's Favorite Entrepreneurs of 2011? And rightfully so - he's a young entrepreneur with a mission.

We stumbled across Hart's product, Man-Cans, at another local retailer and we quickly fell in love with the concept. We fell so hard, we decided to carry them in our store. Who doesn't want a candle that smells of gun powder, Grandpa's pipe, sawdust or even a campfire? Several of Hart's scents are now available at Indian Lake Outfitters!

As you read above, Man-Cans are made inside an actual soup can purchased from a local grocer. The soup is donated to kitchens all across the area to help those in need. The label is removed from the can and then made into a candle scented with "manly" appeal, like dirt or fresh cut grass.

For each candle purchased from Indian Lake Outfitters that accompanies an unopened can of soup, you will receive a dollar off the price of your candle.

We're on a mission to help Hart continue his - One Candle, One Meal
