Do You Know the Health Benefits of Archery?

Although a predominantly recreational sport, archery offers several health benefits both physically and mentally. Have you ever wondered how archery can strengthen your muscles and put you in better health? Yes? Then read on...

Archery is a great upper body strength builder, similar to lifting weights. Pulling and drawing back your bow requires a several second hold that places stress on both your arms and chest as well as your shoulders and back. Repetition leads to muscle development in most of the major muscle groups of your upper body.

Balance is vital to the success of your archery score because you have to be able to hold your body still while aiming and making that perfect shot. Just practicing the sport of archery helps you gain control over your balance as you focus on the target.

Another essential skill for archery is hand-eye coordination. Archery can actually train your hands to work together with your eyes while aiming and firing your arrow.

Shooting archery can be a great walking exercise. During competitions, you'll walk from target to target in short intervals improving your cardiovascular health, muscle tone and leg strength.

Mental focus is important to success as an archer. Developing focus can have a positive impact on your mental health and well being. The focus you learn from archery may even help you to overcome procrastination and distraction.

If you're interested in learning more about archery, or just want to give it a try, call or stop into Indian Lake Outfitters. We're open 7 days a week with an indoor, climate controlled archery range.

Logan County Relay for Life Annual Quarter Auction

Everyone loves a friendly competition, especially one quarter at a time. This year's Relay for Life Quarter Auction was even bigger than last year with paddles selling out in just a few days of announcing the event!

If you've never been to a quarter auction before, here's the scoop... you WIN AWESOME PRIZES for JUST $0.25 A BID!! There are four categories for the evening. Gift baskets that range from the $25 price range, $25-$50, $50-$75 and $100 and up.

If the item up for auction is in the $25 category, it's just a twenty-five cent bid for each paddle you have. If the item is in the $100 category it's a 4-quarter bid for each paddle you have. Each paddle has a matching number in the hopper. If you're paddle number is pulled from the hopper and you placed a bid for that item, then you win the current item up for auction. Pretty simple, right? AND TONS OF FUN!

The 2nd Annual Logan County Relay for Life Quarter Auction was held Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Indian Lake Outfitters was asked to donate a little swag to help with the cause so we decided to participate full-throttle and offered four great gift baskets for the auction.

If you're interested in joining our Relay for Life Team or would like more information on how to get involved, don't hesitate to give us a call!

Indian Lake Ohio Duck Dynasty Polar Plunge

Each year thousands of folks do crazy things. The people of Indian Lake, Ohio are no different and we here at Indian Lake Outfitters, fit right in just fine. A few weeks ago we had the pleasure to participate in the Annual Indian Lake Polar Plunge and take the "Freezin' for a Reason" challenge.

The Polar Plunge is a national organization created to support the Special Olympics - it's locally supported by the Indian Lake Moose Lodge. The event is in its 4th year at Indian Lake and continues to grow annually. For 2013, Plungers raised over $7500 for the cause!

Anyone is eligible to plunge with a $75 pledge for adults or just $50 for students. The only other requirement to participate is that you have fun AND DRESS UP! So guess what?! Team ILO was all on board for a good time showing up as Si, Phil and Willie Robertson of Duck Dynasty. We had complete outfits with beards made out of mop heads!

For more photos of Team ILO and the 2013 Polar Plunge at Indian Lake, check out our facebook album here.
